Oleksandra’s Story

👤 Our team is made up of people with different experiences, but with the same desire to be useful.

We present to your attention the story of Oleksandra: her life position, resilience, and the path to our NGO 👉

"From the first days of the war, I found myself with my family under occupation and decided to stay in the community. I attended rallies resisting the occupiers, distributed Ukrainian ribbons.

During this period, my family faced many trials. One of which was the lack of communication. At that time, the Russian military jammed the work of all Ukrainian operators.

Sometimes it seemed that you were face to face with the circumstances. The occupiers did everything possible to make us lose faith.

Four months later, a decision was made to evacuate. Raids and threats were intensifying, and the safety of the children was the most important thing.

The path was difficult: numerous checkpoints and searches. Also, during the evacuation, our convoy came under mortar fire.

Having left for Kyiv, I started volunteer activities as part of a charitable foundation.

At the same time, I engaged in creativity to support the morale of Kherson residents — I painted steles and signs of the temporarily occupied territories of the Kherson region on Ukrainian flags.

I have been working as part of the NGO 'PVDN' for over a year — together we implement useful projects, work with youth, and support initiatives that are important for our region. I am glad to be part of the team."

The project is implemented within the EMPOWER project, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) jointly with the European Union (EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid) and implemented by GIZ Ukraine (GIZ, German International Cooperation).
